Open Meeting for Porthmadog Supporters

12th July 2011

Mae Clwb Peldroed Porthmadog wedi cyrraedd croesffordd lle y gall unai ad-ennill ei le ar y safon uchaf yng Nghymru neu fe fydd yn aros yng Nghyngrair Huws Gray am flynyddoedd i ddod. Neu, hyd yn oed fe all ddisgyn i'r drydedd lefel a Chynghrair y Lock, Stock and Barrel fel eraill o'r cewri a fu unwaith yn sefydlog yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru.

Dyma neges noeth a diflewyn ar dafod y Cadeirydd, Phil Jones yr wythnos hon. "Yn 1996 'roedd y clwb yn wynebu mynd i'r wal oherwydd problemau ariannol. Daeth amryw o wirfoddolwyr newydd i'r adwy a llwyddiant a chynnydd fu hanes y clwb ers hynny. Ond bellach nid sefyllfa ariannol sydd yn bygwth dyfodol y clwb ond y diffyg help yw'r broblem.

Ers 2004 buddsoddwyd dros £300k yn gwella cyfleusterau ar y Traeth ac fe lwyddwyd i gael dau ben llinyn ynghyd pob blwyddyn. Mae sefyllfa ariannol y clwb bellach yn un teilwng iawn gyda mantolen gref y gallai unrhyw fusnes fod yn falch ohoni. Ond mae'r bwrdd cyfarwyddwyr bellach i lawr i bump aelod. Mae sawl ffynhonnell incwm unai wedi diflanu, fel y sel cist car a'r marci a'r bar symudol, neu o dan bwysau cynyddol. A'r broblem fawr yw diffyg cyrff a chefnogaeth, hyd yn oed i ymgymeryd a'r tasgiau mwyaf elfennol. 'Rydym yn disgwyl iawn-dal sylweddol am golli tir a busnes y sel cist car oherwydd y ffordd osgoi ond nid tan 2012 ar y cynharaf. Ein bwriad fydd buddsoddi mewn gwella cyfleusterau ar y Traeth a sefydlu mentrau ddaw a incwm parhaol ond heb ormod o waith i'r gwirfoddolwyr fel gosod paneli solar ar y touau a gwerthu'r trydan i'r Grid Cenedlaethol."

Fel ymateb i'r bygythiad mae'r clwb yn trefnu cyfarfod cyhoeddus ag agored i'r cefnogwyr am 7 o'r gloch nos Fawrth y 12eg. o Orffennaf yn y clwb cymdeithasol. "Mae'r neges yn glir" medd Phil Jones "ni all y criw bach sydd yn ceisio cynnal y clwb wneud hynny mwyach os mai'r nod yw ad-ennill ein safle yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru neu, hyd yn oed yng Nghynghrair Huws Gray. Bydd rhaid cael mwy o ddwylo i ymgymeryd a sawl tasg neu bydd rhaid torri'r got i siwtio'r brethyn. Gwahoddir pawb sydd a dyfodol y clwb yn agos i'w calon i'r cyfarfod ar y 12eg. o Orffennaf."

Porthmadog Football Club has reached a crossroads whereby it can either reclaim its position in the Welsh Premier League or consolidate in the Huws Gray Alliance for years to come. Or it could even drop to the third tier and the Lock, Stock and Barrel Welsh League.

This is the stark and forthright message from club Chairman Phil Jones this week. "In 1996 we nearly went to the wall for financial reasons but a number of new volunteers became involved and since then the club has developed rapidly and solidly. But now it is not financial difficulties that is the problem but the lack of help and support to run the club on a day to day basis.

Since 2004 £300k has been spent on improving facilities and we have managed to steer clear of financial problems by breaking even or generating small profits every year. Our balance sheet is one that most local businesses would be more than pleased with. But the board of directors is now down to 5 members and several of our income streams have either disappeared like the car boot sale, marquee hire and outdoor bar service or are under great pressure because of a lack of helpers. We are awaiting a compensation settlement for loss of land and the car boot sale business as a result of the by-pass work but this will not happen until well into 2012. Our aim will be to use these funds to further enhance facilities at the Traeth or establish new income generating streams that will not put pressure on our volunteers and provide permanent income for the club. One such project we are actively discussing is placing solar panels on our roofs and sell on the electricity generated to the National Grid."

In response to this critical situation the Board of Directors is organising an open public meeting to all its supporters at the clubhouse on Tuesday 12th. July at 7pm. "The message is clear" added Phil Jones "the small band of volunteer workers cannot sustain the club even at its current level and certainly cannot achieve our main aim of returning to the Welsh Premiership. We must have more volunteers to come forward to undertake a number of tasks, some quite menial and not too time consuming but which we cannot undertake because of our other responsibilities. Everyone who has the club's future at heart are cordially invited to the clubhouse on the 12th. of July".

New Open Zone internet access hotspot at Y Traeth  2-1-2010

As part of the upgrade of domestic licence work, Porthmadog FC are required to provide internet access for the Press and TV crews.  One benefit of this is that BT Open Zone internet access is now available at Y Traeth for public use.  This access will require the use of a credit card and you will need a laptop with WIFI capability.  This facility will allow visitors to access the internet just like they can from home.

An Appeal  1-1-2010

The Club are looking for a windows based desk top computer for the club office. The model and make do not matter but a model of 5 years or less would be desirable. The computer would be a very useful tool for organising and running both the football club and the clubhouse.

If you have such an item that is currently unloved and unwanted and you would like to donate it to the club, please contact one of the club officials either direct at Y traeth or via our contacts page.

Sunday Carboots

Yn dilyn sawl ymholiad cyhoeddwyd y bydd y sel cist car a gynhelir ar fore Sul yn y Traeth yn parhau hyd at y 1af. o Dachwedd. Tymor digon simsan a gafwyd hyd yn hyn gyda cychwyn da ond effeithiwyd amryw o Suliau yn ystod Gorffennaf ac Awst, gan gynnwys Gwyl y Banc, gan y tywydd anffarfiol. Mae'r sel cist car yn cyfranu swm anrhydeddus i gronfeydd y clwb yn flynyddol.

In response to several enquiries the club has announced that the Sunday morning car boot sale at the Traeth will continue until the 1st. of November. It has been a mixed season for this very valuable contributor to the club's finances with a perfest start in the Spring but some disappointing Sundays during July and August when three events, including the Bank Holiday weekend, were lost to bad weathet.

As part of its 125 year birthday celebrations one of Wales' oldest surviving football clubs is inviting all previous and current players to a reunion.

Porthmadog Football Club was established in 1884 - just 73 years after the town itself was established! - and is organising the event at its clubhouse at the Traeth on Saturday 11th. July. Since its establishment the club has been a prominent fixture in Welsh football circles and has experienced several purple patches from the all conquering amateur team of the 1950's, the 'Mel Charles' side of the 60's, the Merseyside based team which swept all before it in the 70's, the very 'local' team of the 1980's and, of course, since the early 90's it has -apart from a short period- been a member of the Welsh Premiership. It has always espoused a policy of playing as many local players as possible, being unique at the highest level in north Wales for this stance. According to the organiser Dafydd Wyn Jones "In all its 125 year history the club has only once failed to play a team and, ironically, that was in 1984 when it was 100 years old! Therefore, we thought we would celebrate 125 years instead.

Any player who has worn the red and black shirt at any time in the past, and our current players, are welcome to frequent the event. A buffet will be provided and it will be an opportunity for former players to discuss and reminisce about some golden times with other former co;lleagues some they may not have met for several years. Naturally we would like confirmation from those who intend attending to ensure that we can cater properly for everyone and this can be done by contacting me on e-mail at dafyddwynjones@tiscali.co.uk or by telephone on 07810057444 or 01766 762775.
